Who's injecting your face?

It may come as quite a surprise but right now, the UK is the only country that does NOT regulate the aesthetics industry!

Unlike most other countries, what this really means is that absolutely ANYONE can practice aesthetic medicine in the UK.

The only part of aesthetic practice which is currently held to a standard is the requirement for Botulinum Toxin A to be prescribed for a particular patient, following face-to-face consultation with a registered prescriber (ie doctor, dentist, nurse prescriber).

But you don’t have to demonstrate any level of medical training or hold a particular level of qualification to administer dermal fillers, as these are not prescription drugs.

I don't know about you but I think that's quite shocking!

As a registered Dentist and trained facial aesthetic practitioner, I am acutely aware of the facial anatomy and the risk of possible complications that can, and do, occur and I support calls to tighten up the regulation of the aesthetics industry in the UK.

Thankfully there are some moves afoot as the government works to crack down on unregulated aesthetics that I hope will improve regulation of the industry as a whole and which will ensure higher standards and reduce risk to aesthetic clients in the future..
